What's the difference between James Hardie, Allura, and Nichiha?

All three are quality fiber cement manufacturers with similar performance. Hardie has the strongest brand recognition and ColorPlus warranty; Allura and Nichiha offer comparable products often at slightly lower pricing.

Will fiber cement crack?

Properly installed it doesn't crack from normal expansion. Cracking is almost always traceable to incorrect fastener placement or inadequate expansion gap — installation matters.

How often does fiber cement need repainting?

Factory ColorPlus finishes hold 15+ years. Site-painted fiber cement repaints on a similar 10–15 year cycle, far longer than wood siding.

Is fiber cement heavier — does my home need structural reinforcement?

No, for normal residential applications. Fiber cement is heavier than vinyl but well within design loads for standard wood-framed construction.

Fiber cement is a portland-cement-and-cellulose composite that performs like masonry but installs like wood siding. It's heavier than vinyl, requires specific cutting and fastening, and is more expensive — and pays back in service life, paint-holding, and resale value.

Indiana's freeze-thaw cycle and humidity swings are well within fiber cement's tolerance. Properly installed (with correct fastener spacing, expansion detail, and end-cut sealing) it lasts 30+ years with only periodic repaint cycles.

We install the full system: field panels, trim boards, soffit, frieze, and accessories. Mixing fiber cement field with vinyl or wood trim is a common shortcut that compromises both warranty and appearance — we recommend full-system installs.
